Killdeer Mountain

 In 1866 a riverboat steamed up the Missouri to a ceremony naming a frontier fort in honor of the heroic major Charles Raleigh. The boats passengers all thought they knew him, but each knew a different man as a curious reporter delves into the raleighs harrowing mysterious past his legend unravels in a strange series of contradictory acts of betrayal and cowardice, courage and honor fortunes made and lost. He was a man who fought loved, died and lived again under the vast Dakota skies in a land. Too big, too dangerous for any man to emerge unchanged.
