The life of Our Lord;

In 1849, one of the world's supreme storytellers wrote down in his own hand, the gospel story to leave as a permanent record for his children, whom he had lovingly instructed in it from their earliest years. The manuscript not intended by the author to be published eventually came by way of his sister-in-law Georgiana Hogarth to his son, sir Henry Dickens. Sir, Henry was equally disinclined to publication during his lifetime, but provided by will that his descendants could by a majority decide otherwise after his death. This consent was given in 1934 when the life of Our Lord was issued serially by a London newspaper, the anniversary of Charles Dickens death seemed a suitable occasion to reissue it in permanent form and a handsome addition embellished by illustrations reproduced from engravings by some of the most imminent artists of Dickens own time, it should serve something of the purpose that Charles and Mary lambs tells from Shakespeare has done for generations that of an introduction of an indispensable part of their spiritual inheritance to those as yet too young to receive it directly from the Bible itself
