Tuscany resists definition: in the global collective consciousness it is the Italian region par excellence and, even in its multifaceted diversity, it represents a cohesive historical, artistic and naturalistic entity that just happens to be situated right in the center of the region. Rather than being comprehensive accounts, they are intended to act as spurs and invitations, to compel you to follow those twisting roads that wind their way among rolling hills, to lose yourselves in the labyrinthine streets and alleys of the medieval cities, to dream in front of a Tyrrhenian sunset as you stroll along the endless beaches of the Maremma or to contemplate the sea from the rocky shore of Elba.
